DRRAG's Mission

The Disaster Relief Rotarian Action Group (DRRAG) is a global networking, multi-service, relief and development non-governmental organization (NGO).  DRRAG was recognized by the Board of Directors of Rotary International in 2007 as a Rotarian Action Group (RAG). To this end, the Disaster Relief RAG acts as the overarching policy and leadership framework intended to support and unify Rotarian involvements in relief and development activities - locally, regionally and worldwide. Rotarian Action Groups implement their programs through Rotarians, Clubs and Districts around the world.

The Disaster Relief RAG is designed to help Rotarians contribute to preparedness in a timely and effective manner before a disaster and to participate in response, relief, recovery and rebuilding coordination after a disaster: to help save lives, alleviate suffering, stimulate recovery and mitigate hazards.

To fulfill our mission purpose, the Disaster Relief RAG will endeavor to provide a number of Rotarian supports. These supports include:

  1. Provide training programs for all levels of Rotarian relief and development involvements.
  2. Assure that Rotary programs are not duplicating or interfering with other programs (whether Rotary or third party); provide worldwide coordination; help identify gaps in coverage in any particular disaster response and act as required.
  3. Provide Rotary disaster entities with an effective promotional and communications vehicle to display their disaster programs, recruit interested parties and generate resources.
  4. Provide contacts and skill-set inventories of Rotarians who have specialized skills useful in disaster operations and who are available to assist Rotarian disaster intervention programs including the referral of volunteers.
  5. Assist Rotarians and Rotary entities to be able to scale-up and scale-down to meet the needs, challenges and demands of an intervention based on context and Rotary's terms of reference.
  6. Assist Rotarians, Clubs and Districts in disaster management financial services.  The Disaster Relief RAG will help assist clubs, districts, DRRAG country committees and zones in establishing banking relationships, accounting systems, financial reporting, and auditing and accountability programs for disaster operations.
  7. Assist clubs and disaster interventions with resources to meet surge capacity needs in terms of funding, personnel, materials and logistics.
  8. Provide an online disaster operations library of plans, procedures, protocols and best practice guidelines relevant to disaster management and relief and development activities.
  9. Assist clubs, districts and zones with their communications needs, including emergency dispatch services and technical assistance.
  10. DRRAG works through the Rotary International Network (RIN) of Clubs and Districts.
  11. DRRAG is not an agency of Rotary International and does not act or speak on its behalf.

DRRAG delivers a worldwide structure for Rotarians to effectively participate in disaster response and recovery that will provide both a timely emergency response to victim needs and long term help in furthering and assisting recovery. I invite you to join us. DRRAG's focus is holistic; we want to do more than just assist in emergency situations; we want to stay the course and help "bring the impacted community back to whole again." We can attain this rebuilding goal through the power of Rotary and our ethic of "Service above Self."

DRRAG will engage the front line Rotary clubs as lead operational responders and the whole Rotary organization (1.2 million members and 33,000 clubs) as back-up. We can scale to meet the need, whether that need is human, intellectual, financial, material or service.
